We thought we’d booked one evening in a studio.

Elin and Elias brought a song with a chorus that needed a little more life. A shared studio contact brought Alma into the picture. She invited Gabriel to try a rhythmic part and Freya to sing the chorus. That was all five of us in one room. We hadn’t planned much further than that.

We recorded separately at first, then tried the harmonies together. Something clicked. We looked at each other in that slightly awkward way people do when nobody wants to be the first to say: this is actually quite good.

We booked another evening. Then another. Soon we were writing melodies for each other’s voices and leaving things at the studio. Always a sign.

Somewhere between those evenings, it stopped feeling like five people helping out on a song. We wanted to keep making music together. Nobody made a grand speech. We just started asking when everyone was free next.

“For me, it was when I had a bad singing day and still wanted to be there.”Freya
